Incline Elementary School is going to take over the The 14th annual Dummy Downhill at Diamond Peak! Each grade will design its own dummy and enter it into the competition where the dummies will be pushed down a hill and launched off a jump. The event takes place on April 6th and is open to the public. Last year Mr. Harssema’s third grade class took home the gold, and we are confident we can take it again!
Last Friday, March 7th, an assembly was held inside the gymnasium announcing the event to the whole school. Ms. Cushing and Mr. Mares introduced guest speaker Brad Johnson, a local engineer. He made an appearance and taught the kids what it means to be an engineer. Penguin Pete and Jaclyn Ream from Diamond Peak also came to speak to the kids about the event and present each grade their own pair of skis.
To determine which grade got to choose their skis first, there was a screaming contest. Penguin Pete was the judge of who was the loudest screamers. Needless to say, the students went all out and it was a tough call, but it was the second grade with their eardrum shattering performance who won first pick.
The students have a month to work with their teachers and build their dummies. Each classroom will be assigned a different part for their grade’s dummy. It’s going to be awesome to see what each grade comes up with!
